Yields: 4 servings
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 fresh pineapple, peeled, cored, and cubed
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 tablespoons parsley or other herbs chopped (for garnish)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Prepare the marinade: In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, grated ginger, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes (if using).
2. Marinate the steak: Add the steak cubes to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 1 hour in the refrigerator.
3. Cook the steak: Heat olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade (reserve the marinade) and sear the cubes on all sides until browned but still slightly pink inside, about 5-7 minutes. Work in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
4. Add pineapple: Add the pineapple cubes to the skillet and cook for another 3-5 minutes, until they are lightly caramelized and heated through.
5. Create the sauce: Pour the reserved marinade into the skillet. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, until it thickens slightly and coats the steak and pineapple.
6. Season and garnish: Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh parsley.
7. Serve: Serve the steak bites and pineapple hot, over rice or as an appetizer.
Tips:
- For a richer flavor, use a higher-quality soy sauce.
- If you like a sweeter sauce, add an extra tablespoon of honey.
- Make sure not to overcook the steak; it should still be tender inside.
- Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
